Stay in and relax, or get out and explore…

The local area.

Our nearest city is the historic market town of Chester.  Whether you fancy fun on the river, shopping on the medieval rows, having a flutter at the Races, or soaking up some culture at the Storyhouse theatre, Chester has it all.

The county of Cheshire has plenty to explore, from Tatton park, Dunham Massey and Lyme Park to Jodrell Bank and nearby Beeston Castle.

You can shop til you drop at Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet (about a 25 minute drive away).

Further afield, within about an hour's drive you can explore Liverpool or Manchester, the North Wales coast to the west of Ludlow and Shrewsbury to the south.

Things to do with kids.

A real hit with our younger visitors is the Ice Cream Farm, a fifteen minute drive away.  As well as a mouth-watering selection of ice creams, there’s a fabulous free outdoor play area for kids.   You can also pay for a number of extras, crazy golf around strawberry falls, “Silvercone” go-carts, and a giant marshmallow trampoline. There is also an indoor soft play area, and indoor water and sand play (take a change of clothing!)

Chester Zoo is a popular day trip – about a 25 minute drive away.

BeWILDerwood is a welcome new addition to the local area for younger visitors, just a 15 minute drive away, it’s a 70 acre natural woodland with treehouses, storytelling, mazes in the sky, rope bridges, slides and zip wires.

For small and large people alike, Cholmondeley Castle Gardens, 15 minutes’ drive away are worth a visit – there are a couple of small play areas, some animals (pigs, lamas etc.) and lots of open spaces to run around.  Good for picnics or there’s a café there too.

Great outdoors.

The local area is very popular with cyclists and walkers, and we're close to several fantastic walks along the Sandstone trail.

Delamere Forest is a great place for walks and cycling and also has Go Ape, a rope course in the trees for older kids and adults who are brave enough.  It’s about a 30 minute drive from the Stableyard.

More outdoor fun can be had at Manley Mere, a 25 minute drive away.  There are plenty of water sports available on the mere including stand up paddle boarding and in the summer, an inflatable assault course.  There’s also an adventure trail, and a café for the less adventurous!
